Saints Row: The Third is coming to the Switch

Strap it on (that’s literally the game’s tagline)

Saints Row: The Third, the second greatest game of all time, is coming to the Nintendo Switch. For those unfamiliar with the series, it began as a Grand Theft Auto-like open world gangster simulator. After two series entries though, developers Volition decided to make something different. Shunning the semi-serious nature of its contemporaries, Saints Row: The Third is a modern classic that brings ludicrous hijinks, immature humour, and extremely on the nose, yet somehow insightful, social commentary. Despite initially releasing in 2011 and original publisher THQ going bankrupt in 2012, the Saints Row legacy lives on.

From pre-release footage, it looks like the Switch’s hardware can handle the action and mayhem.

If you have never experienced the rush of parachuting into a penthouse to the sound of Kanye West’s ‘Power’, or rescuing hostages to ‘I Need A Hero’, now’s your chance. The uncompromising giddiness and tongue in cheek fun of Saints Row: The Third will be available for the Switch on the 10th of May 2019, and ‘The Full Package’ version. Whilst two DLC packs, Bloodsucker and Unlockable, have not made the cut, a huge amount of extra content will be included, so for those of us who missed that first time around, a boatload of new cosmetics and missions will be available to play.

Hopefully we’ll see a full remaster of Saints Row 4 in the near future, but for now we can settle for the original game that let you batter baddies over the head with an enormous purple dildo (The Penetrator) and perform wrestling moves that would make Brock Lesnar turn and run. Saints Row: The Third isn’t for everyone, but if you can suspend all expectations of realism and maturity, it absolutely has something for you.
