Super GG Radio's Highlights From Steam Next Fest - Summer 2025

It's the June Steam Next Fest (the 2nd of 3 for the year), a festival of demos for games that are coming out this year. A cavalcade of indies and unheard of gems that are worth your time if you put in the discovery effort. If you don’t feel like putting in the effort, don’t fret, I’m here to help!  Here is what we at Super GG Radio loved from Steam Next Fest

Consume Me

Did you ever feel stupid, fat, lazy and ugly in high school? Consume Me is a quirky take on the constant ongoing anxieties that befall a young teenage girl. It all begins with passive-aggressive comments from her mother, which then spirals into dozens of minigames that involve juggling her dieting concerns, stress levels, nutrition, worries over being smart enough, getting someone to notice them and all the other pressures that surround being a teenager. It’s a powerful and deeply upsetting experience in a cute and fun wrapping. I am fascinated with this game and hope everyone keeps Consume Me on their radars.

DAVY X JONES

If Doom 2016 or Titanfall 2 are some of your favourite first-person shooter experiences, let me tell you about DAVY X JONES, a narrative linear first-person shooter with a lot of style. You play as Davy Jones, a pirate who is killed by Black Beard and sent to the depths. Now armed with your trusty squid blunderbus, harpoon and your talking ghost skull, it’s up to you to traverse the underworld and escape to get revenge on the man who sent you here. This looks good, plays even better and has a lot of promise.

Dead As Disco

For those who really enjoyed Hi-Fi Rush, I present to you Dead as Disco. A fast-paced 3D beat 'em up, but of course set to a sick soundtrack. Become Charlie Disco, as he returns from the dead on a combat quest for revenge. Its slick-looking neon effects are powerful with every punch, and that’s punctuated with licensed bangers like Manic by Michael Sembello, this one oozes style and fun. When playing this demo I couldn’t stop a stupid grin from gracing my face.

Mina The Hollower

Oh boy, did Yacht Club Games outdo itself YET AGAIN post Shovel Knight. If Shovel Knight was a love letter to Mega Man, then Mina the Hallower is a love letter to the classic Legend of Zelda  and Castlevania games. Here you play as Mina, a mouse who is sent to rescue a cursed island. She has multiple weapons to choose from, trinkets to equip and side weapons that cost currency to use. The action is top down, but the style is all Game Boy and NES sprite-based artwork. The world is massive with lots of enemies and bosses to take on, and a hub world where you can level up your stats and upgrade your weapons. There’s so much about what makes Mina the Hallower work that really all I can say is that this team sure doesn’t miss.

oneway.exe

In keeping up with the mascot horrors that’s so in vogue (looking at you Five Nights at Freddy’s) comes oneway.exe, a game about a secret hidden game that no one has survived playing. You of course take it upon yourself to play and are sucked into a horror mystery filled with lady Garfield mascots and anime girls, while performing mini games with your life at stake. Of course, because it's a “computer program”, there are a lot of fourth wall-breaking bugs, crashes and pop-ups to mess with you, but this is definitely an intriguing look into mascot horror with a cheeky twist.
